You also want one who will be honest about the procedures you need and only perform those on you when you are nervously occupying his chair. In order to find the right dentist you need to do your research. You also need to understand the procedures the dentist will recommend to you. Here is a description of some of the most popular dental procedures.
Root Canals
When you have a toothache, it is due to an infection in the tooth requiring some treatment. The dentist will always try and save the tooth as the first option and for this he must perform a root canal. Also known as endodontic treatment, root canals remove infected, injured or dead tissue from the interior of your tooth. There is a hollow space inside the hard enamel layers of each tooth that is filled with nerves and blood vessels. When you tooth cracks or you have a deep cavity, this soft tissue can become inflamed causing you pain and a fast decaying of the tooth. At this point the tooth must be treated because to leave it will cause bad issues in the mouth including an abscess and even an infection of the jawbone. Therefore infected tissue is removed and the tooth is filled with an enamel replacement and you are given antibiotics. A root canal is the less extreme option for infected teeth.
Tooth Extractions
In the event a root canal is not possible, you dentist will elect to remove the tooth This option is radical causing you to lose an ability to chew food in that area of your mouth, so your dentist will try every other option possible before extracting a tooth. But extracting a tooth is an important procedures because once the tooth is infected, t can spread into the jawbone and around your body and make you very ill. Another reason for tooth extraction is because of bad gum disease. Gums can also become infected and teeth can become infected and loose because of this, requiring teeth be extracted. In either case, antibiotics are given to you to kill any additional infection.
Dental Crowns
If you have had one of many different occurrences including; being hit in the mouth, grinding your teeth, root canals, lost fillings or tooth decay, you may have had one or more of your teeth wear down, or crack. When this happens you can either have the tooth extracted or the more common and practical method for the visible teeth, you can get a crown. Crowns look just like teeth and cover the entire surface of the injured tooth. They are made of natural looking porcelain and will match your existing teeth. Often crowns become loose in time and will need to be repositioned or replaced.
